Welcome to The News Bead!

A lot is going on at JAMS these days! We're gearing up for our 2009 Summer Camp and Classes - registrations are being accepted, looking forward to the Fall 2009 term and bringing Abacus skills to people of all ages and skill sets. Fun Event 2009, earlier this month, was a great success and I truly appreciate all the help from the volunteers who made that happen! Next year will be the 5th year for the event and I'm hoping to make it bigger and better than ever… and next year will be our 10th Anniversary, so there will be other fun things to look forward to in celebrating that milestone!

Enjoy The News Bead and I hope to see you at our Summer Camp and Classes!

May 7th - JAMS at Intel - On May 7th, Sensei Miwako will be delivering an Abacus Skills Workshop for Intel employees, proving that you can indeed teach an old engineer new tricks! Intel is hosting the brown bag workshop, which is already full, and Sensei is looking forward to it. If you are an Intel employee and would like to participate in an Abacus workshop, let us know and we'll put the bug… or bead… in the ear of the right people.

May 21 - Annual OES Abacus Afterschool Performance - Sensei Miwako will be presenting on stage at The OES Annual Afterschool Performance on May 21st from 5:00 to 6:00pm (at approximately 5:15pm).

If your child would like to participate (preferably Advanced students), I would like to provide the opportunity for them to perform their mental calculation skills on stage with me.  Please let me know if you and your child are interested. I will also be bringing one of our 1st Grade students to the event.

Thank you for your support and if you have any questions, please let me know!

May 27 - Japanese Cultural Fair, US Fish & Wildife - On Wednesday, May 27 at 11:00am Sensei Miwako and JAMS students will be presenting their skills at the Japanes Cultural Fair, sponsored by the US Fish & Wildlife Department. The event is at 911 NE 11th Avenue in Portland - it's next the the Lloyd Center where parking is available and just off the Max line. Hope to see you there!

Abacus for Seniors - I'm also looking for Retirement and Senior communities to teach Abacus skills to. If you know of any that would be interested, please call me (503.520.1063) and let me know.
