Our son has only been taking Abacus classes for a few months now and we have
been amazed! At first I was skeptical because I couldn’t see how learning Abacus
math could benefit him. It only took a few classes for me to see the benefit!!!
My son is learning mental calculations which helps with his brain development
but is also learning fundamental study habits and how to focus. Our son doesn’t
even look at the classes as math - he thinks it’s a really cool game and loves
going to class! As an educator, I’m amazed at Miwako sensei’s ability to motivate
and keep the children engaged each class session. The kids come away with a
greater desire to learn more and more!

Annual Fun Meet & Competition
Our annual event was held during the weekend of June 13, and all had a great
time. A smaller event than previous years, as our California guests were unable
to attend, we still had a great opportunity to show off our skills and share
some fun memories with all of our JAMS families.
Congratulations to all who worked so hard to sharpen their Abacus skills for
the event! Here are the top three scores from each group:

Your introduction to Abacus was a real pleasure for my class. I was not sure
how my students would react to the new skill, as math is not very entertaining
to most of my kids. As you progressed into the content of the lesson students
were excited to find that, with the Abacus, the task of adding and subtracting
multiple numbers can be entertaining. In fact it became fun, and for this I,
as an alternative teacher, am very glad. It also hit me that this approach
to math calculation was both a cultural and academic mental field trip. The
students were benefiting in a very big way. The connection that you made with
the students was because of your dynamic and inclusive teaching style. Thanks
very much!

Once again, JAMS will be participating in the Bethany Summer Concerts on July 22nd, August 5th, and August 19th. Come out to stop by our table and listen to some great music… we may even be on stage demonstrating our skills!
The highest compliments we can receive at JAMS are your referrals. If you
know of anyone who can benefit from learning and mastering Mental Math, we
are asking you, our dedicated Abacus Families, for your referrals. As a thank
you, for each referral you provide who registers, we will provide you with
a $25 tuition credit! And the student who brings in the
most referrals will receive a ONE TOUCH ABACUS ($100 value)! AND... for every
5 referrals turned in the student will be entered in a drawing for a gift card!
Simply provide us with contact information and we will invite your friends/family
to participate in a free/no obligation trial class. That’s it! If they register,
you receive the credit!
Pick up your referral forms at the school, or download them here.
Thank you for supporting your child(ren) and for helping us get the word out
about JAMS!

Since enrolling, we have witnessed improvement in our kids’ memory skills.
They memorize spelling words and long piano pieces almost instantly and process
complicated information quickly and logically. We’ve observed a boost in our
daughter’s creativity and sharpened concentration and comprehension skills
in our son. Our only logical answer for these developments is the abacus training
they have received. I recommend JAMS to everyone. JAMS is superb, and Sensei
Miwako is a loving teacher who has a passion for teaching abacus and motivating
children to develop their mental gifts.
